Dr. Kube was featured in Becker’s Spine Review in a feature titled, “Ask Spine Surgeons.” It is a weekly series of questions posed to spine surgeons around the country about clinical, business and policy issues affecting spine care. Dr. Kube discusses how spine surgeon employment compares to 10 years ago.
Dr. Kube’s response: When I started in practice six years ago, there were no spine surgeons employed by hospitals. Since that time, one of the local health systems bought the neurosurgery group, effectively moving half of the spine surgeons into the hospital employee category. There are other orthopedic spine surgeons in the community, but there is no indication that any of them are leaving private practice any time soon.
