Dr. Kube and the team at Prairie Spine & Pain Institute gave me my life back. I am a full 5 weeks post-op. I am able to walk, sit and stand. Thank you so much! – Paul Stegmaier
Meet Paul Stegmaier, a young man struggling to find pain relief until choosing the care team at Prairie Spine & Pain Institute. Paul shares, “After struggling with Sacro-Iliac Joint (SIJ) Disease for 3 years after a work related injury, I lost my job. I could not function. I had every diagnostic test ran on my spine and pelvis, pain management, and high quantities of narcotics around the clock. Nothing provided any relief.”
Paul was suffering from SIJ pain. The SIJ is located where the spine and pelvis meet and is a source for back pain in about 25% of patients. Dr. Kube stated, “It is not uncommon to see patients with untreated or undiagnosed SIJ pain. Problems in that joint can look a lot like disc related back pain and sciatica.” Paul had a thorough examination followed by diagnostic injections into the SIJ to confirm the diagnosis. Based upon those results, Paul was deemed a candidate for a cutting edge technique to minimally invasively treat his pain.
Paul added, “Once Dr. Kube took my case and did confirmatory injections, he scheduled me for an SI fusion using Zyga SImmetry.”
“Paul was in severe pain when I met him. He was using a cane which is unusual for a man in his mid 30s,” said Dr. Kube. He went on to say, “Based on our workup, Paul was a great candidate for a minimally invasive SIJ fusion. We were the first in the world to use the Zyga SImmetry device, and over these last 4 years it has helped many find pain relief.”
Paul was able to go home the day of his surgery. He almost immediately gave up his cane and the pain meds, and was able to start physical therapy 2 weeks after surgery. He is well on his way to a full recovery.
