On a recent episode of “Doctor Oz,” different forms of pain relievers were explored and examined by both the host, Dr. Oz, and dietitian, Ashley Koff while on a mission to end dependency on medication to treat pain.
Ashley Koff, Registered Dietitian, has a food prescription to improve your health and end your pain. Many people do not realize how powerful food can be when it comes to treating pain, but Dr. Oz says there is actually a lot of science to support that fact.
One of the most common areas of pain for many people is in their joints. Dark Cherries work just as aspirin would as an anti-inflammatory treatment to end your pain.
- Eat 20 Cherries per day
- Buy Dark Cherry Juice – drink a small amount as this is highly concentrated and could contain sugar
- Purchase frozen dark cherries
Dietitian Ashley Koff says that there has been a lot of research in the medical community and you will often see people who have been prescribed supplements that include Papain, which is Papaya Extract, to treat their back pain because it actually works. She says the rich color of the flesh means that Papaya is loaded with Vitamins A and C, which are super healthy antioxidants that will go in your body and reduce inflammation and stress to ease your back pain.

Ashley’s last word of advice was to think of your food as medicine. She said that the quality food you invest in will determine how much you’ll need to spend on medication and treatment to feel healthy. Eating good, healthy foods in your diet will result in better health, more strength, and less pain, she said.
